MATERIAL RESPONSE

Material Response
is a new programme of the HAT Project, in which A FINE LINE is working with museums
in the North West and East regions of the UK and partners in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, China and the
Caribbean, in collaboration with makers and craftspeople, as part of the MLA Cultural Olympiad - Stories of
the World programme. Its core aims are:

  • to inspire and challenge contemporary craft culture by facilitating opportunities for research
and professional development through international exchange
  • to explore and express the relationships between people, cultural artefacts and the negotiated
teritories of cultural identity in three core areas: the museum and its collections, artists as
agents and mediators, and the inherent cultural presence of communities

Partners in the UK include Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge; Luton Museums; Colchester & Ipswich Museums,
Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery; V&A Museum of Childhood; The Harley Gallery, Welbeck; Whitworth
Art Gallery; Manchester City Galleries; Bolton Museum; Harris Museum & Art Gallery; Burnley & Helmshore
